~The Raven began in the early summer of 2007. It started out as an online musical written between a composer/lyricist from Canada and a librettist from the States, who had just met briefly in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. walking into a building at the same time. What began, with this new partnership, was a dream scribbled out on sheets of manuscript paper and notebook pages. What became of it, is a large-scale musical production five years and many drafts/re-writes later.
~On December 2007-January 2008, The Raven had its first round of Demo Recordings in Kaysville, Utah, U.S.A. There were six songs at this point. A big thank you to the first people who got us started: Alex Nitz, Brittany Belinski, Natalia Noble, Chris Morales, Dominic Quin-Harkin, Larissa Villers, Jacob Shamy, Meagan Miller, Katrina Noble, Paden Smith, Erica Richardson, Lara Johnson, Laurel Sandberg, Justin Bills, Sean Carter and D L Walker (and everyone else we failed to mention). Though the songs you recorded are almost completely changed now, it was through you, that the show was able to push forward in the direction it needed to go and become what it is today. (Keep checking our music and video pages, as there will be clips of these original recordings added in the future, to show how the show has progressed.)
~ The Raven had its first collaborative read-through in May 2010 in SLC Utah, U.S.A. The first official timing came to seven hours.
~The next year was dedicated to massive cuts in both song and dialogue. The story-line was overhauled and several main characters were re-written and re-born.
~ The Raven had it's first production team read-through on November 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. The time had been cut down to three hours, and then eventually a few months later to two and a half hours.
~The Raven churned out 25 songs and 5 reprises, which are included in the 159 pages of scripted dialogue. All of the songs, since the first recordings in 2007, have been re-written either partially or completely.
~ The show finally began to take its first steps off the page in December 2012, when a group of professional singers; namely Steven Morton, Erin Breen, Dan Simon and Jillian Hannah recorded selections from the production for a Demo Recording and the web-page.
~The Raven went into production for its first full-scale Staged Readings on March and April 2013 at the Cardel Theatre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
~CURRENTLY: The Raven is in pre-production for a series of readings/workshops to take place in the upcoming year. CLICK HERE for audition information.
