DEATH: Greedy for life and jealous of anything that has it, he feels each soul that Edgar takes and waits for the day when Edgar will finally give him life.

RUFUS: Edgar’s shallow friend and rival in love. 

LENORE: Rich and spoiled, Edgar is the only man she can’t have and the only man she wants.

EFFY: She’s a sensible girl in high society who much prefers a book over other enticements, until she falls for the wrong man.

DEATH HUNTERS​​

ROMAN: Leader of the Death Hunters. Though he appears a fashionable young buck in society, his soul is lost. Roman is vicious and vindictive in his quest to take souls for death.

PANDORA: Her soul and heart are lost to Roman. She loves Roman enough to destroy everything he cares about.

​​BLAKE: A Death Hunter who finds cruel humor in losing his soul which makes him bored and dangerous. No bars can hold his soul, no law can bar his soul. The only place denied him is heaven.

CALLISTO: Bitter and sarcastic and with nothing to lose, even her soul, she grows reckless. Loves juicy gossip, though she is involved in the scandal of the century, losing her soul.

LEVI:  The newest Death Hunter and the one with the most heart.  Continually fighting who he has become, he still tries to root for the underdog.

MATRONS OF SOCIETY

LADY WORTHAM: The most sour, most ancient matron of society, most polite with her insults. She’s Rufus's aged aunt.

LADY BLAQUE: A proud matron in society, most especially proud of her son, Roman, who can do no wrong.

ELDERS OF SOCIETY

DUKE OF BILLINGSHEAD: Lenore and Effy's grandfather.  Much to his daugher-in-law's chagrin, he won’t die and pass on his title.  Billingshead has had enough of society and says what he likes.

WITHERSFIELD: Cronies with Billingshead and Honeywood. He has an easy laugh.  

HONEYWOOD: The most ancient man in society and the most irreverent, though he can barely get his wry comments past his quivering mustache.

ENSEMBLE

LADY CULPEPPER:  Lenore’s Aunt and Effy’s mother. Chaperones Lenore's  come-out in society and prohibits her from going after the rakish Lord Edgar Warwick. She is an invariable bootlicker and tries to insert herself in Society while she forces her daughter Effy on Lady Blaque's son Roman at every opportunity.

ALGIE: Edgar’s butler, a calm death hunter who’s a stickler for the rules.

WILBEY: Edgar’s Footman, part of Algie’s entourage of better-behaved lost souls.

SHEEBA: Edgar’s maid, she’s also a death hunter, though loyal to Edgar.

HERALD: The eccentric, flamboyant herald in Lady Wotham’s household. Announces company with great flair and causes scandal and agitation to Lady Wortham at every turn.  Also serves as the Royal Interpreter to 'interpret' what society really means.
